Recent drug offender facing distribution allegations in Sedalia following traffic stop

SEDALIA, Mo.- A reoccurring drug offender from Sedalia was arrested and charged following a traffic stop in Sedalia on Monday, July 17, 2018.

At approximately 6:50 p.m., Michael Stewart, 55, was operating a vehicle and an officer with the Sedalia Police Department knew he had an active warrant. The officer initiated the traffic stop south of E. 14th street after multiple attempts to get Stewart to pull over.

As information was collected another officer arrived on scene and located a black/blue zipper pouch sitting in the roadway behind the patrol car. Upon further investigation, a miniature zip lock style baggie that contained 1.0 grams of methamphetamine, a package that contained dozens of empty/unused miniature style zip lock style baggies, a digital scale, and $41 in cash.

Stewart denied throwing the pouch out of the window although he was acting “erratic” and appeared nervous according to an officer on scene. Stewart’s vehicle was searched and multiple items of contraband were recovered as evidence. An officer also seized Stewart’s phone which contained messages that appeared to pertain to drug activity and distribution.

Due to Stewart’s extensive criminal convictions he was placed in custody on a $125,000 cash/surety bond. Stewart was formally arraigned Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Pettis County and will appear again Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., for a scheduled hearing.
