Accused Sheriff steps down after assault case plea deal

EDINA, MO – A Missouri Sheriff charged in Knox County Court with misdemeanors, has pleaded guilty.

During an arraignment hearing today at 3 p.m. in Knox County, Sheriff Robert Becker, 51, received sentence for 2nd degree Sexual Abuse, and 4th degree domestic assault from last December, and April this year.

A plea agreement results in suspended execution of 2 years imprisonment, with probation. Becker is also to resign from his position as sheriff.


Traffic arrest in Warrensburg leads to drug charges

JOHNSON COUNTY, MO – A traffic stop today in Johnson County led to an investigation into possible narcotics possession.

Information by the County Sheriff’s office says a traffic stop at North and Washington Streets in Warrensburg ended in the arrest of Joseph M. Harvey, 34, who was taken into custody for a 24-hour investigation into controlled substance possession. Illegal drugs and paraphernalia were later seized at a Warrensburg residence. No charges have yet been filed.

The Sheriff’s office says, it is the fourth drug arrest in the last month in ongoing effort to stem criminal activity in the area.

Kentucky man arrested with drugs in Lafayette County

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mo. — State troopers seized a pound of marijuana in Lafayette County Thursday.

According to an arrest report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers detained Eddie R. Smith, 37, of Flatwoods, Ky., for alleged drug possession.

Smith was allegedly in possession of about a pound of marijuana and drug paraphernalia when he was arrested around 8:49 a.m. Thursday. He is preliminarily charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor for paraphernalia possession.

Smith was taken to the Higginsville Police Department, where he was processed and released pending the filing of formal charges in a Lafayette County courtroom.

Criminal setting may establish trial in abuse case

RICHMOND, MO – A child abuse case in Ray County may head to trial after a criminal setting scheduled Friday.

Case records indicate Tiffany Gorham is charged with 26 felony counts of abuse or neglect of a child. The 8-year-old victim claims she had been abused both physically and mentally for nearly three years. A change of judge will see the honorable Joseph McGaugh oversee the hearing tomorrow at 9 a.m.

Traffic stop leads to felony allegations against Independnce driver

RAY COUNTY, Mo. — An arrest in Ray County early Friday morning landed an Independence woman behind bars.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers detained 22-year-old Kristen M. Snelling around 12:22 a.m. Friday on drug-related allegations.

Snelling faces preliminary charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, driving without insurance and careless and imprudent driving resulting in a crash.

Snelling was taken to the Ray County Jail, where she was placed on a 24-hour investigative hold. Formal charges are currently pending.

Centralia man arrested and incarcerated for warrants

RANDOLPH COUNTY, MO – A resident of Centralia was arrested Friday afternoon by state troopers who accused him of drug possession.

Informal charges were listed against Ethan Sanders, 19, in a crash report by Highway Patrol, that include felony delivery and possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. The report also lists, driving while revoked, speeding, no insurance, and no seat belt. Additional reasons for arrest were warrants out of Boone County and Hallsville for driving while suspended or revoked.

Sanders was incarcerated at Randolph County Jail in lieu of bond.

Macon arrest involves Columbia man on sodomy charges

MACON, MO – A report of sexual assault was conveyed to police in Macon over the weekend.

According to police, Jason Shade, 39, of Columbia was arrested early Saturday at a hotel in Macon. Charges against Shade include sexual abuse, and sodomy or attempted sodomy.

Bond was established at $50,000. Futures hearings have not been set.

Arrest subject thought linked to multiple thefts

HARRISONVILLE, MO – A person of interest was taken into custody over the weekend by law enforcement in Cass County.

The County Sheriff, and Harrisonville Police cooperated in the arrest of Jeremiah Denson, 28, who is suspected of stealing at least 6 vehicles over a ten day period in December this year. Information shared Saturday by the County Sheriff indicates prosecutors intend to file charges related to the theft. Denson was also wanted on warrants for failure to appear in multiple court cases, which include burglary, assault, property damage, and resisting arrest.

He is held in Cass County Jail. The various warrants carry different bond amounts and conditions, which total $66,800.


Brookfield man investigated for child endangerment

BROOKFIELD, MO – Prosecutors are determining whether to file charges against a Brookfield teen.

Police say they were made aware of a video posted by Gabriel Donovan, 18, which depicted a fight between two juveniles. Donovan was later arrested for endangering the welfare of a child, and conspiracy to commit assault.

Donovan was taken into custody Thursday last week for investigation, and then released.

Hit-and-run accident leads to felony allegations in Jefferson City

COLE COUNTY, Mo. — Jefferson City Police say they seized methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia after stopping a hit-and-run driver Saturday evening.

Authorities say Michael I. Vice, 51, of Salem, fled the scene after running into the rear of a vehicle at 50 and 63 Highways in Jefferson City.

The report claims Vice was impaired when he was stopped a short distance from the incident.

Vice also had a suspended license for nonpayment of child support.

Bond was set at $5,000 for charges of drug trafficking, drug possession and driving while intoxicated.

COOPER COUNTY, MO – A Maryland resident was apprehended in Cooper County suspected of drug distribution.

Missouri Highway Patrol made the arrest Wednesday morning of Jacob Schmid, 27, of Mechanicsville, MD. Schmid was informally charged with delivery and manufacture of marijuana, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and illegal use of drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to Cooper County jail in lieu of bond.

Man accused of kidnapping to appear in Pettis County

PETTIS COUNTY, Mo. – A counsel status hearing is scheduled this morning for a convicted felon accused of kidnapping.

Corey T. Owens, 28, was paroled from the Missouri Department of Corrections, just days before he allegedly attempted to abduct a small girl who was visiting at the Sedalia home where he was staying. During Owens arrest on December 15th, he was reportedly in possession of methamphetamine. Owens has previous convictions for assault, theft and drug possession.

At the 9:00 a.m. in Pettis County, he faces felony counts of first degree kidnapping, possession of a controlled substance, assault in the third degree and resisting arrest for a felony.

Three area residents behind bars following drug allegations in Ray County

RAY COUNTY, Mo. — Three people were detained on drug-related allegations in Ray County early Friday  morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers detained Brenda L. Burnett, 58, of Chillicothe; Harold R. Burnett, 63, of Polo; and Canaan T. Bigelow, 26, of Chillicothe around 12:42 a.m. Friday in Ray County.

All three were preliminarily charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, Harold Burnett faces an infraction for not wearing a seat belt.

They were transferred to the Ray County Jail, where they were placed on 24-hour investigative holds. Formal charges are currently pending.

Suspect in custody for Sedalia bank robbery

SEDALIA, MO – Police in Sedalia took into custody a resident suspected of supplying transportation after a robbery Wednesday.

Sedalia police identified David A. Graves, 52, as the driver of an alleged getaway vehicle following a reported robbery at Central Bank on 400 W. Broadway. Graves was taken into custody Thursday for the duration of a 24-hour investigation.

Formal felony charges for stealing are pending.

High-speed chase ends with arrest of driver

MONITEAU COUNTY, MO – A Jefferson City teen was arrested Thursday by Moniteau County deputies after a high-speed chase.

County Sheriff, Tony Wheatley, says Ariyan Akins, 17, was taken into custody on suspicion of felony resisting arrest by fleeing. A press release indicates the chase on eastbound 50 Highway reached speeds up to 130 mph, moving from Moniteau into Cole county. Deputies were assisted by Jefferson City officers after the driver lost control and crashed into a ditch.

Akins was also charged with controlled substance possession. Bond was set at $25,000.


Warrensburg driver tased, detained during stop

JOHNSON COUNTY, MO – Narcotics detectives in Johnson County Monday arrested a subject from Warrensburg.

According to Johnson County Sheriff’s department, the suspect was arrested during a traffic stop in the 200 block of 13 Highway. Officers reportedly tased Cecil Dwight Henry II, 41, of Warrensburg after he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Henry was detained for a 24-hour investigation on suspicion of possession and delivery of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and resisting arrest.

COOPER COUNTY, Mo. — An out-of-state resident was arrested late this morning in Cooper County.

According to the arrest report, at approximately 11:20 a.m. Tuesday morning, troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Christian A. Paul, 44, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Paul has been preliminarily charged with felony possession of  controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The report alleges that Paul was found with 3.5 ounces of marijuana in his possession.

Paul is currently being held at the Cooper County jail where he is listed as bondable.

Out-of-state resident detained on drug allegations in Dekalb County

DEKALB COUNTY, Mo. — An Arizona woman is behind bars in Dekalb County after she was arrested with drugs early Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers arrested Pepper R. Riley, 42, of Peoria, Az. around 3:35 a.m., allegedly in possession of drugs.

Riley was preliminarily charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Riley was transferred to the Daviess-Dekalb Regional Jail, where she was placed on a 24-hour investigative hold.

Formal charges will be sent to the Dekalb County prosecuting attorney for consideration.

Chillicothe subject detained for driving under influence

DAVIESS COUNTY, MO – A Chillicothe man was incarcerated Wednesday morning after being arrested by Highway Patrol in Daviess County.

Informal charges indicate Joseph Wilson, 33, was driving while intoxicated. He is also listed as a prior offender. Additional charges included driving while revoked, as a second offense, and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident.

Wilson was detained at Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail for 24 hours.

Driver accused of cocaine possession in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. – A Columbia man was being held until he could post bond after a traffic stop in Boone County Friday night.

The Missouri Highway Patrol report says, just before 10:30 Friday night, a trooper stopped Rapheal R. Jones, 28, for failing to display valid plates on his vehicle. An arrest led to the alleged discovery of cocaine, a misdemeanor amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Formal charges have not yet been filed.
