Suspected shooter in New Year’s Day Waffle House homicide in custody

The then 29-year-old, Matthew Callier McMillan is accused of shooting two men, killing one on New Year’s Day 2018.

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. – An investigation into the homicide of a Columbia, Mo. man in a Waffle House double shooting New Year’s Day now has the suspected gunman in custody.

The Columbia Police Department has announced the arrest of Matthew Callier McMillan, 29, of Columbia.

He was located and taken into custody Saturday evening, January 20, 2018, by the Kansas City, Mo. Police Department on a felony warrant. The warrant included charges of Felony Murder in the Second Degree, First Degree Assault and Felony Armed Criminal Action.

McMillan remains in custody in Jackson County awaiting transport to the Boone County Jail.

Columbia police responded to an area Waffle House on Vandiver Drive just after 1:00 a.m. on a report of a disturbance.  As officers arrived they were advised by dispatch that two victims with gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed an altercation took place at the restaurant in which at least two shots were fired, striking two male victims.  One received non-life-threatening injuries. Anthony DeSean Warren, 30, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
