SULLIVAN COUNTY, Mo. — An Independence woman has been charged with three felonies following her arrest on Sunday, July 2, afternoon.

According to a probable cause statement from the Sullivan County Circuit Court, Brittany Sifuentez, 27, was apprehended after a Sullivan County law enforcement official observed her driving and behaving erratically in the parking lot of a Casey’s convenience store in Milan, Missouri.

The officer approached the vehicle that Sifuentez was driving and asked for her drivers license. She exited the vehicle, stating that it was in her backpack in the back of the vehicle. She reached for the bag before setting it back down and getting back into the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The officer again requested to see her drivers license, to which Sifuentez responded “she had to get back to Texas.” She then drove off.

The probable cause statement goes on to state that the officer was able to block her from exiting the Casey’s parking lot and instructed her to leave the vehicle but Sifuentez resisted and wrapped her arms around the steering wheel, refusing to let go.

The officer was forced to pepper spray Sifuentez when she became physical.  The officer was then able to subdue her.

Sifuentez was transported to Sullivan County Hospital where she appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic.

A search conducted on the vehicle she was driving discovered that it was stolen out of Independence earlier in June. The search also yielded a small spoon with a powdery white substance on it, which turned out to be methamphetamine.

Sifuentez has been charged with felonious stealing a motor vehicle, tampering with a motor vehicle in the 1st degree and felonious resisting/interfering with arrest. She was also charged with a misdemeanor: driving with a revoked/suspended license on the 2nd or subsequent offense.

Her bond has been set at $25,000 cash only.  Court dates are pending.
