ADAIR COUNTY, Mo. — A mother and daughter were taken into custody in Adair County Tuesday after they allegedly broke into an apartment and threatened the resident with a weapon.

Stephanie Kincaid

According to a probable cause statement obtained through the Adair County Clerk’s Office, officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress at an apartment in Kirksville at about 9:46 a.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, two females were seen leaving the back of the apartment in question, and the victim informed officers they were the pair who had attempted to burgle and threaten her.

Officers ordered them to the ground and they were identified as Edina resident Stephanie Kincaid, 30, and Debra Kincaid, 55, of Knox City.

Upon a body search, green latex gloves were found in Stephanie’s pocket and a pair of black leather gloves were found on Debra’s person.

Debra was also allegedly found with two glass pipes which had burnt substance determined to be marijuana.

The victim told law enforcement that Debra had a black handgun and Stephanie was in possession of a stun gun when they knocked on her apartment door before barging in uninvited after Debra allegedly pointed the gun at the victim and said “I want my money, where is your daughter?”

The victim went on to say that Stephanie told her that they were going to kill her. The victim’s daughter was reportedly present during the incident.

Debra told the investigating officer there were handcuffs, a stun gun and a black handgun in the back of her SUV. These were recovered in the vehicle in addition to another glass pipe.

Investigators were given consent by Stephanie to view the text messages on her mobile phone. One message observed allegedly stated she was going to Kirksville with her mom to get her money back. She went on to say in the message that her mother was bringing a Glock and handcuffs, and wrapped up the messages by saying she would likely be in jail by the end of the day.

Stephanie alleged she went to the victim’s apartment to recover money she said Rogers’s daughter had stolen from her.

They are both now charged with one felony count each of burglary in the first degree as well as unlawfully exhibiting a weapon.

Both of them are currently being held at the Adair County Jail.
