CASS COUNTY, Mo. — A man is in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement following a crash Sunday night in Cass County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on southbound Interstate 49 at 307th Street when a vehicle driven by Belton resident Juan E. Vasquez-Palma, 29, traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.
An occupant in the vehicle, Gabriel Brito-Ramirez, 29, also of Belton, was seriously injured while another passenger from Belton, Eduardo Vasquez, sustained moderate injuries. They were both taken to Research Medical Center for treatment.
Palma-Vasquez was charged at around 11:44 p.m. Sunday with felony driving while intoxicated, felony driving while revoked, felony assault, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident and no insurance. In addition, he was wanted on five misdemeanor warrants out of Grandview and one misdemeaner warrant issued by the Belton Police Department.
The report from the Highway Patrol indicates that Palma-Vasquez is an undocumented immigrant.
Palma-Vasquez was taken to the Cass County Jail where he is being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
