WARSAW – A Warsaw man is facing multiple charges, including second degree murder, following a confrontation Sunday night.

Court documents indicate a warrant was issued Monday for John M. Moreno that accused him of the murder, along with assault and armed criminal action. According to a probable cause statement, a man called dispatchers saying the victim, Lance Lyman of Warsaw, had entered the rear seat of his truck, yelled that he was shot and told him to drive. Moreno reportedly continued to shoot at the vehicle as it took off. Lyman was taken to the the ambulance base in Warsaw. Upon examining Lyman’s multiple gunshot wounds, medics called a helicopter to transport him. Lyman was pronounced dead at the helicopter landing zone.

A witness told deputies the events of the night that reportedly led to the shooting. Moreno and two women were outside of a bar arguing. The argument started to get heated, and Lyman said he knew Moreno was armed and that he needed to take his weapons away. Lyman took Moreno’s knife and baton, but when he tried to take the gun, he started shooting. Moreno was arrested at the end of Clearwater Road near Warsaw.

A hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday
