Illegal gun and drugs found in wanted man’s car after pursuit

Columbia, MO – A man who had a warrant fled from a traffic stop, only to wreck and receive several more charges. Columbia Police said around 1:00 a.m. Friday, 34-year-old Morris McDonald of Columbia was stopped for multiple lane violations near Business Loop and Providence Road.

Officer’s said they ran his information and learned he had an outstanding warrant for domestic assault in the fourth-degree with a $5,000 bond. When the officer’s went to arrest McDonald, he sped off. Police followed McDonald but said he was reaching too high of speeds for the pursuit.

Authorities found McDonald’s wrecked car at Bicknell Street and West Walnut Street. McDonald was arrested in a backyard nearby.

Police report they found a significant quantity of herion and a stolen handgun inside McDonald’s car.

McDonald is now facing first-degree drug trafficking, stealing a firearm (possession), unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm (felon in possession), felony leaving the scene of an accident, distribution of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest for a felony.
