Kansas City man facing assault charge after police chase in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Mo -A Kansas City man is facing assault after a police chase in Cass County on Monday, September 16.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed Charles Rice, 36, driving 68 mph in a 25 mph zone on Monday, September 16 on South Prospect road in the Belton area. During the pursuit, Rice crashed his vehicle into a field, while one deputy crashed into a tree line. Rice was taken into custody while the deputy was sent to the hospital with a dislocated hip, fractured pelvis and lower spinal injuries.

Rice is facing 2nd degree assault of a special victim, resisting arrest and driving with a revoked/suspended license.

Rice also had three active warrants out of the Kansas City, Belton and Jackson County areas. As well as ten prior convictions from 2002 to 2017 in the Kansas City area.

Rice is in custody in Cass County Jail on $150,000 bond.
