RAY COUNTY, Mo. — A pursuit Tuesday in Ray County ended in Independence with a fight between a motorcyclist and a pursuing deputy.

A Ray County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a motorcycle with a passenger for a traffic violation Tuesday, according to a news release.

The motorcycle sped away, running a stop sign on South Wellington Street in Richmond.

The pursuit traveled into Camden on Route T, where deputies attempted to flag down the motorcycle.

After the motorcycle committed what officers say was felony assault by swerving at the deputies, the pursuit continued into Clay County, however the chase came to a halt when the bike overturned at a low rate of speed. The passenger surrendered, but the driver fled on foot.

A Ray County deputy tackled the suspect, who reportedly began to struggle with the deputy. A Clay County and Ray County deputy arrived and the rider gave up the fight.

No one was injured and both suspects are in custody in Ray County, pending the filing of formal charges.
