CASS COUNTY, Mo. – A man from Texas is being treated for serious wounds after a shootout with law enforcement in Cass County last night.
Around 11:30 Wednesday night, Belton Police requested assistance with a pursuit on southbound Interstate 49, regarding a shooting call. Two troopers who were on a traffic stop at the 170 mile marker, were able to deploy spike sticks to disable the vehicle. The driver exited the vehicle and pointed a gun at his own head and passing motorist. One shot was fired at a passing vehicle.
The suspect carjacked a vehicle and headed back toward Raymore on the interstate. Authorities pursued the man into a Raymore subdivision where he exited the vehicle again. The suspect continued to point his weapon at himself and responding officers. Troopers advised shots had been fired and the suspect was down.
The white male suspect, 27, from Houston, Texas, was transported to Research Hospital with serious gunshot wounds. A check of the suspects background revealed to active Jackson County felony warrants for his arrest. The Missouri Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the officer involved shooting.
Cass County, Belton and Raymore Police Departments are assisting in the investigation.
