LEXINGTON, MO – Warrants were served this week to defendants in a case of financial exploitation.

Two Richmond residents are accused of formal charges after allegedly accepting a check from Norborne residents this September, in payment of insecticide treatment around a residence. According to a probable cause statement, Alfred Huffman, 81, and Ray George, 50, claimed to be with a pest control company offering free inspections. It was reported to the Carroll County Sheriff that the cost of a subsequent treatment was deemed to be unusually high, according to the alleged victim. Additionally, a second pest control specialist, reportedly verified that proper technique was not used by Huffman and George in treating the residence. There was also no evidence of carpenter ants, as had been claimed by the suspects.

Huffman and George were both charged with a single count of financial exploitation of the elderly, a class D felony. Huffman and George have both posted $25,000 bond. A hearing for Huffman is set for 9 a.m. January 10.
