Richmond Police confirm Wednesday afternoon shooting

RICHMOND, Mo. — The Richmond Police Department has confirmed reports of a shooting first reported by KMZU News on Wednesday.

According to Richmond Police Chief Chad A. Burnine, the shooting happened in the 300 block of West North Main Street at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, an unnamed 19-year-old male from Lawson was found with a “small caliber” gunshot wound in his back, according to a news release from the Richmond Police Department.

The victim in the shooting was taken by air ambulance to Centerpoint Medical Center where he is currently in stable condition.

The suspect in the shooting, a 16-year-old from Richmond, whose name is not being released due to their juvenile status, was arrested and taken to the Clay county Juvenile Detention Center in Liberty.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is assisting Richmond Police with their investigation of the incident.

Formal charges will be forwarded to the Ray County Juvenile Office.
