Ashland man charged after Friday afternoon crash seriously injures one

BOONE COUNTY, Mo. — A resident of Ashland was arrested Monday morning on multiple charges stemming from a crash in the early morning hours of Friday, June 2.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Shay A. Hoos, 40, was driving a vehicle at about 4:22 a.m. on June 2 when he drove off the roadway, overcorrected and overturned.

A passenger, Robert G. Cates, 37, also of Ashland, was seriously injured in the rollover crash. He was taken to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment.

Hoos allegedly left the scene of the crash when it happened, according to the Highway Patrol.

He was detained at about 10:30 a.m. Monday and is now preliminarily charged with felony driving while intoxicated causing serious physical injury, felony leaving the scene of a crash and failure to register a motor vehicle.

In addition, he faces one count each for failure to register a motor vehicle, no insurance, careless & imprudent driving involving a crash and no drivers license.

Hoos was transported to the Boone County Jail where he later posted bond.

Formal charges are currently pending and a court date has not yet been set.
