MARSHALL, M0 – In a press release issued September 1 by Marshall police, the Department says they have taken some action in response to allegations of statement falsification by officers in a case against Carl Roettgen.

He entered a guilty plea in August to charges of resisting arrest.  Charges of assault, armed criminal action, and possession of a firearm were dismissed after some discrepancies were investigated in statements made by law enforcement.  Officers made written statements to confirm the existence of a handgun, but video surveillance was found to be inconsistent with the claim.

The Marshall police have officially requested Missouri Highway Patrol to investigate the conduct of the department in relation to Roettgen’s case.  They say they are also seeking a consultant from outside the department to review Department procedures.  Officers O’Bryan and Newell remain on paid administrative leave.
