SEDALIA, MO – Pettis County Sheriff says a person arrested at the courthouse Thursday morning on several charges attempted to flee from officers as he was being escorted to jail.
Sheriff Brad Anders says, Malachi Sims, 20, allegedly ran, in handcuffs, down 4th Street as security personnel chased him. Using intelligence on various possible locations, officers tracked down a suspect vehicle that had picked up Sims, to a gas station. After a confrontation and struggle with officers, Sims was taken back into custody, and is expected to face additional charges.
No injuries were reported. Sheriff Anders says escort policies from the courthouse to the jail are under review.
