PETTIS COUNTY, Mo. — A days-long, multi-state hunt for a man who escaped from the Pettis County Jail last week is finally over.
According to a news release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, Travis Lee Davis, 30, is back behind bars in Pettis County after law enforcement officials arrested him east of Sedalia early Tuesday morning.
Reports indicate Davis was taken into custody with minimal incident and no shots were fired during the ensuing arrest.
Davis first escaped from the Pettis County Jail on Sunday, March 10 and authorities launched an extensive search, which eventually led to tips that the suspect had crossed into Arkansas and Oklahoma.
He was picked up by police in Heavener, Oklahoma, where he escaped from the back of a police car and stole the patrol vehicle.
Authorities found the car abandoned a short time later. It is believed Davis may have boarded a northbound train in Oklahoma after abandoning the police cruiser.
Davis was spotted near Clifton City in northeastern Pettis County over the weekend, according to authorities, and a massive air and land search effort was undertaken by area law enforcement.
Davis is now back where it all began, at the Pettis County Jail, where he is held without bond.
Additional charges will be sought against Davis, in addition to the original charges, which include felony kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child.
Future court dates have not been established in Pettis County at this time.
